Former Hartlepool defender Michael Nelson helped guide Norwich to victory on his first return to his old club. Nelson, who spent six years at Hartlepool before moving to Norwich in the summer, scored with an acrobatic overhead kick following a free-kick. That free-kick was taken by Paul McVeigh, who also played a part in Norwich's second when Stephen Hughes rolled the ball home on 63 minutes.
