Five-star Chairboys leave Pools standing

Debutant Paul Hayes struck twice as Wycombe ran riot against Hartlepool to climb off the bottom of the League One table with a 5-0 win.

Hayes and Gary Doherty are both on loan from top-of-the-table Charlton and they were both on the scoresheet along with Stuart Beavon in a stunning first-half display.

Hayes and Beavon both doubled their tallies after the interval as Pools' poor run without an away win in 2012 continued.

Chairboys boss Gary Waddock gave starts to four new signings and it only took Hayes five minutes to open his account, poking home after Scott Flinders parried his initial effort.

Six minutes later and Doherty doubled the lead, climbing highest to head home Anthony McNamee's corner.

Beavon then slotted his 15th goal of the season just before the break after woeful defending from the visitors.

And the one-way traffic continued in the second-half as Hayes bundled home his second after a catastrophic error from Flinders and Beavon rounded it off after 71 minutes, firing a shot in off the post from the edge of the area.
