Wadsworth slams Trophy rules

Hartlepool caretaker manager Mick Wadsworth has slammed the Johnstone's Paint Trophy selection rules ahead of his side's Tuesday night clash with Northampton. Wadsworth is expected to rest Adam Boyd, James Brown and Paul Murray, but competition rules preclude him from making more wholesale changes. In order to avoid the possibility of the the tournament becoming an effective reserve competition in some circumstances, teams must pick six players that feature in either the game before or after their trophy tie. "We have to go by these stupid rules with how many changes we make," Wadsworth told the Northern Echo. "Arsenal and Man United can change their team for the League Cup, we can't do it for this competition. "It's nonsense, absolute nonsense."
