Turner: Humphreys has role to play on the field

Returning Hartlepool skipper Ritchie Humphreys has been assured he is still a firm part of Chris Turner's first-team plans despite his new coaching role. The 32-year-old midfielder missed the whole of pre-season with knee and ankle problems but will feature in the reserve clash with Lincoln on Wednesday. Turner is keen to develop Humphreys' coaching skills but was quick to stress the midfielder is still a key first-team player. "He has warmed up the players before the game during the first three matches so we are introducing him onto the coaching side of things." Turner told the Hartlepool Mail. "I think he will be utilised with the coaching to a small degree but he will still be predominantly used as a player. "We're not looking to put him out to stud yet. He is still fighting for a first-team place."
