Turner hails Horwood

Hartlepool manager Chris Turner has hailed new defender Evan Horwood for grasping the opportunity to sign for the club. Hartlepool-born Horwood made no secret of his desire to play for the team he supports and the 24-year-old fulfilled a lifelong ambition by agreeing terms last Friday. The move came after the left-back's release from Carlisle in the close season and Horwood resisted reported overtures from Aberdeen, who were believed to be interested in securing his services. Turner is delighted with his new recruit and told The Journal: "He has shown a great appetite for the game during his trial spell with us. "He has added some real attacking presence down the left-hand side. His deliveries from set-pieces have been excellent and we really could have scored more goals during pre-season on the back of that. "We're delighted he's agreed to sign for the club and I feel he deserved his chance to prove himself with his hometown team."
