Pools enjoy another away day

Hartlepool's excellent away form continued with a 2-0 victory at Scunthorpe, who are still struggling at home.

The visitors, beaten only once on their travels in the league this season, took charge of the game from the start.

Antony Sweeney went close with an early header before striker Andy Monkhouse fired them in front in the 21st minute, drilling a shot from the edge of the box into the bottom corner past keeper Sam Slocombe.

Two minutes later Hartlepool nearly struck again with an excellent long-range effort from James Poole which was tipped over by Slocombe.

Monkhouse missed a golden chance to double their advantage when he headed wide with the goal at his mercy from a cross by Evan Horwood in the 37th minute.

Booed off by their own fans at half-time, Scunthorpe huffed and puffed in the second half but never mustered a worthwhile effort at goal.

It was Hartlepool who struck again after 77 minutes when Sweeney headed home at the near post from a cross by Evan Horwood to condemn Scunthorpe to a third home defeat of the season.
