Pools close on defender deal

Hartlepool manager Mick Wadsworth is close to sealing a loan deal for an unnamed Championship defender. Wadsworth is keen to recruit defensive cover before the weekend's match with Dagenhame after skipper Sam Collins was ruled out of the game with a knee injury. The mystery player he is looking at is a young 6ft 4in centre-back who turned out for Pools` reserves in their 6-0 friendly win over Northern League club Horden on Tuesday night. Wadsworth told the Sunderland Echo: "We don't want to say too much just yet, but we're working at a deal. "It's not easy to do things quickly, but we've had a centre-half in who I like the look of so we'll see what happens."
