Pools captain slams ref Russell

The official's performance was rubbished by Turner after he sent off keeper Adam Lee-Barrett and also failed to award Pools a late penalty for handball.

And Turner has received the backing of his defender who claims he was sworn at by the Hertfordshire official.

"I had a go at him about the inconsistency and raised my voice and the referee has pointed his finger in my face and told me to shut up," Nelson told Hartlepool's official website.

"Where the respect campaign goes there I don't know but I think if I had pointed my finger in his face and said the same, I'd have ended up watching the last half hour in the changing room.

"You know you see decisions being contested and then accepted but sometimes the referees have to take responsibility for decisions made."
