United lost 3-2 against FC Volendam on Monday and then 4-2 to SC Cambuur on Wednesday as new defensive signings Peter Hartley, Neil Austin and goalkeeper Scott Flinders struggled to find their feet. However, Turner defended his players by admitting the team have yet to do any intensive work at the back. "We haven't done any defensive work in terms of set plays and we have conceded goals from situations like that," he told the Hartlepool Mail. "The two teams we have played, I would prefer to play this sort of standard in two weeks time rather than in the first full week. "But these two games are purely to get their legs going and their mind back into playing 11 versus 11 football and everyone has had a run-out now which is what we're here for."
