McSweeney: I back myself

Hartlepool winger Leon McSweeney admits he has had to work hard to fight his way into the starting line-up but is determined to keep his place. The 27-year-old started the season well down the pecking order at Victoria Park but has not looked back since scoring the winner on his first start of the season against Plymouth in October, stringing together a run of impressive displays. He told the Hartlepool Mail: "I was out of favour at the start of the season and it was hard for me. "But I fought tooth and nail to get back in and when I got the chances I put the performances in. Now I'm back in I'm not giving that up. "I've been creating goals and scoring a couple as well and on form I should be in the side. "I have a lot of faith in my own ability and I came back in great shape in the summer so it was frustrating to begin with, but now I'm part of the team and it's down to me to make sure that remains the case."
