Madine treble sinks Pools

Gary Madine netted a clinical hat-trick as Carlisle eased to a 4-0 victory at hapless Hartlepool. Giant defender Lubo Michalik opened the scoring after eight minutes when he fired a glorious 40-yard free-kick into the net, arrowing his strike past goalkeeper Jake Kean. Madine then took over after Ben Marshall's pass found him behind the defence and he picked his spot after eight minutes, shooting low across Kean. The goalkeeper then blocked Francois Zoko's shot after 36 minutes but Madine was on hand to tap in the rebound. And he completed his haul in style, drilling a low shot into the net from 20 yards after 71 minutes. Pools' only chance came with the score at 0-1, when Antony Sweeney was put in on goal, but was blocked by goalkeeper Adam Collin and Andy Monkhouse's follow up was deflected wide.
