Jones wants to quit Hartlepool
Jones, who arrived at the club last summer following his release by Manchester United, was an integral part of Pools' starting line-up last term but has been used sparingly during the club's pre-season programme so far.
Speculation had been raging that the 22-year-old had asked for a transfer as a result, and the club have now issued a statement confirming the rumours.
It read: "Hartlepool United have this week received a written transfer request from midfielder Ritchie Jones which will be given consideration in the near future.
"Contrary to some reports in the press, Ritchie Jones is not on a free transfer and remains under contract to Hartlepool United."
