The 21-year-old, who arrived at Victoria Park from Sunderland, started all of Pools' first-team friendlies and is almost certain to be in Chris Turner's starting line-up at MK Dons on Saturday.
Hartley has settled in well and told the Hartlepool Mail: "It's always hard coming to a new club.
"It's my hometown club so I was eager to do well. But Colin (West) pulled me aside and had a chat with me about stuff and I think it's starting to show now.
"Every game I'm getting a little bit better and personally I think there's still a lot more to come from me.
"I'm really going to push-on to play week-in, week-out."
