Barron set to ring changes

Hartlepool caretaker boss Micky Barron is expected to shuffle his pack ahead of Wednesday's match with Tranmere at Victoria Park.

Barron was left embarrassed by his side's performance during their 6-1 defeat to Chesterfield on Saturday and is set to make a few changes for the return to league action.

The temporary manager has no new injury or suspension worries ahead of the clash.

Middlesbrough forward Charlie Wyke is available having extended his loan spell

Midfielder Andy Monkhouse will miss out once more as he remains a fortnight away from fitness, while forward Luke James is sidelined for six weeks after a double hernia operation.

Goalkeeper Andy Rafferty is the only other Pools player in the treatment room and he is not due back until the New Year after undergoing knee surgery during the summer.

Tranmere are set to be without Paul Black after the former Oldham full-back has picked up a calf injury.

But manager Ronnie Moore will have his attacking options boosted as the npower League One pacesetters look to end a run of three games without a win.

Playmaker Andy Robinson (hamstring) is in contention once more, while Birmingham loanee Jake Jervis has recovered from an ankle injury picked after scoring his side's goal in last month's defeat at Bournemouth.

Both men were ready to take part in Sunday's postponed FA Cup tie with Braintree, although Jervis' fellow striker Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro remains sidelined with a broken metatarsal.

"Blacky is struggling with a calf strain and Akpa Akpro is out until January, but everyone else is looking to play." Moore told Rovers' official website.

"Jake Jervis is fine, he would have played on Sunday had the game gone on. Robbo would have been fit on Sunday, he would have played. It's nice to have him back."
