Burgess blow for Pools

Hartlepool will be without suspended defender Christian Burgess for their FA Cup tie against Notts County.

Burgess, on loan from Middlesbrough, received his fifth booking of the season in last week's home win over Dagenham & Redbridge and sits out a one-game ban.

Manager Colin Cooper could recall Sam Collins to the starting line-up in the absence of Burgess and will be boosted by the return from suspension of winger Jack Compton.

Cooper must decide whether to retain Jonathan Franks in his side or recall Compton, who was in fine form before his dismissal in the recent win against Plymouth.

Shaun Derry will take charge of Notts County for the first time.

Derry, appointed as Chris Kiwomya's successor on Wednesday, inherits a squad with mounting problems.

Danny Haynes begins a three-match suspension after his red card in the league defeat to Coventry last weekend while fellow striker Marcus Haber is ineligible under the terms of his loan from Stevenage.

Full-backs Alan Sheehan (hamstring), Mustapha Dumbuya and midfielder David Bell are injury doubts and will need to be assessed while defender Haydn Hollis (knee) and striker Enoch Showunmi (back) remain out. Showunmi has resumed training but the trip to the north east will come too soon for him to be involved.
