All square at Pools

Scunthorpe drew for a fourth successive time in a 0-0 stalemate at Hartlepool.

The Iron remain second in the Sky Bet League Two table, but now trail leaders Chesterfield by three points.

Visiting goalkeeper Sam Slocombe kept his side in the game early on, making a save from Jack Barmby's dangerous curling shot.

There were chances at the other end too, though, as Gary McSheffrey clipped the crossbar with an angled shot.

Andy Monkhouse was next to be denied by Slocombe when the Pools winger's volley was steered straight at the keeper before the same player had a volley cleared off the line by David Syers.

In the second period, Sam Winnall broke away on the counter attack for the visitors only to fire wide of the mark from inside the penalty area.

Scunthorpe continued to turn the screw as Pools centre-back Sam Collins had to dive in the way of Paul Hayes' strike.

The hosts turned to Marlon Harewood off the bench and he went close in the closing minutes, yet his rasping drive from 25 yards flew wide of the post.
