Pools stop the rot with Robins win

Bottom-of-the-table Hartlepool grabbed their first Sky Bet League Two win since October by overcoming Cheltenham 2-0 at Victoria Park.

Scott Fenwick and Rakish Bingham grabbed the goals at as Pools, who completely dominated the game, tasted victory for the first time under recently-appointed manager Ronnie Moore.

The hosts began in a manner that belied their lowly position, with the best chance falling to Fenwick - only for the striker to hit his shot straight at goalkeeper Trevor Carson from six yards after good work from Michael Woods.

However, he made amends seven minutes before half-time, sliding home at the back post from Jack Compton's cross.

Fenwick twice almost doubled the lead just after the break. First he saw an effort cleared off the line by Lloyd Jones, before volleying just wide having brilliantly controlled Jonathan Franks' cross with his chest.

Cheltenham continued to struggle for a foothold in the game and Hartlepool grabbed a deserved second goal in the 68th minute through home debutant Bingham.

The striker, on loan from Mansfield, capped a fine counter-attack by racing from the halfway line to power home an effort from the edge of the box.

Moore's men came close to a third goal on several occasions, although they were relieved to end with a clean sheet after Kevin Stewart rattled the post with a header.
