Hartlepool 0-1 Dag & Red: Match Report

15 January 2011 17:19
Daggers stage smash and grab raid Dagenham stole a 1-0 victory at Hartlepool with a goal four minutes from time to move off the foot of the table. An awful game, ruined by the wind, ended with a scrappy goal by Gavin Tomlin from close range. Pools boss Mick Wadsworth collected the manager of the month award for December before the game, but it counted for little as his side failed to perform after a bright and encouraging start. Neil Austin fired a 30-yard drive inches wide before Gary Liddle's shot crashed against the woodwork. Austin's goalbound free-kick from 20 yards was then diverted wide and Andy Monkhouse headed onto the roof of the net, while the closest the Daggers came to scoring in the first half was when a 40-yard Danny Green free-kick hit the roof of the stand behind the goal. But the second-half was a tame affair as Pools, playing with the wind behind them lost their composure. And the visitors won it at the death when Armann Bjornsson failed to clear his lines, Jon Nurse crossed low and Tomlin poked the ball in at the near post.
