Canaries ease to Pools victory

Nelson swopped Victoria Park for Carrow Road in the summer after six years' service in the North-East - and he scored his first goal for his new club on his return to his old stamping ground. Paul McVeigh took a short free-kick on 27 minutes, moved into the area and fed Jamie Cureton. When his shot was parried, Nelson was on hand to send a spectacular shot into the net from 10 yards. The Canaries were always in control against a below par home side and the biggest surprise was that it took until the 63rd minute for them to double the lead, courtesy of a classic breakaway. A Pools corner was firmly headed away by Jens Berthel-Askou, McVeigh picked up possession, fed Grant Holt and, when Stephen Hughes burst into space, he took the pass to roll home from 16 yards.
