Brown in right place for Pools

Substitute James Brown earned Hartlepool United a spot in the second round of the FA Cup and a home tie with Yeovil as they finally saw off plucky Vauxhall Motors in a 1-0 win. The League One side laboured through the first game, a tame 0-0 draw, and the replay was heading in the same direction. But Brown's 56th minute introduction sparked Pool into life and he was rewarded with a goal 14 minutes later. Brown almost scored shortly after his arrival, curling wide from 20 yards and Antony Sweeney did likewise. But when Evan Horwood crossed from the left on 70 minutes, Brown was able to plant a header across John Ritchie into the net.
