Hanke seeks World Cup return

08 Sep 2009 - 15:44:46

Hannover striker Mike Hanke still has his eyes set on a place at next summer's World Cup finals, despite having not played for Germany for nearly two years.

The 25-year-old was a member of the German squad for the 2006 World Cup finals, but Hanke has not featured for the national team since November 2007 and has not been a starter for his club this season.

However, he told Bild: "Of course, playing at the World Cup is my target.

"When you have been at the World Cup finals once, you simply can not stand missing out on them the next time.

"However, I am aware of the tough competition up front. Things can change very quick though, especially in the world of football.

"I know that I have to find my best form at Hannover first. The last year has been awful, but I am keen to prove my worth again."
