Bergmann axed by Hannover

19 Jan 2010 - 10:44:03

Hannover have sacked coach Andreas Bergmann in the wake of their 3-0 home defeat against Hertha Berlin, a result that left them in the bottom three of the Bundesliga.

Bergmann had only been in charge for four months after replacing Dieter Hecking as manager but the club's board felt compelled to act after a winless run stretching back to October.

"After a series of three consecutive losses and having not won a match in the last seven games, the Hannover board are no longer confident that Andreas Bergmann can turn things around," read a statement on the club's official website.

"Andreas has done a very good job and he guided the team through a very difficult period after the death of Robert Enke.

"However, our recent performances are not acceptable if we are to prevent the drop to the 2. Bundesliga."
