Reid revels in Accies survival
18 May 2009 - 11:33:15
Hamilton manager Billy Reid claims SPL survival is a better feeling that winning promotion to the top-flight.
Saturday's 3-0 defeat to Motherwell was sweetened as relegation rivals Inverness' own loss at Kilmarnock ensured that Accies will be playing top-flight football again next season.
"Even if we'd won the game it wouldn't have mattered," said Reid, who led the club to promotion to the SPL last season.
"The objective was to stay in the league and become the first Accies side in history to do that.
"Over the season I think we deserve to stay up and think we've brought something to the league. We came in with a young squad with no SPL experience and a manager with no experience.
"The boys give me everything and they're ecstatic. All credit to them.
"I was really emotional, much more so than when we won the First Division last year because I know how much it means to everyone at the club.
"We recognise the size of club we're at. We're a small club in the SPL with no budget, but everyone here works the right way to make it possible."
