Reid hails teenager McCarthy

Hamilton Academical teenager James McCarthy took the plaudits from boss Billy Reid after netting both goals in the 2-0 victory at home to Motherwell.

The win boosted the Accies' hopes of beating the drop, with Reid still adamant that McCarthy is going nowhere in the January transfer window.

He said: "He was the difference between the sides, he took his goals well and everything he does is fantastic.

"It wouldn't surprise me if there are offers in for one or two of them, but nobody will leave here. The education he's getting and the progression he's making as a player and a person is important for him.

"He could have left here a couple of seasons ago, but it would have been the wrong decision.

"Many a young lad probably would have jumped ship and gone to a big club, but he's sensible enough to know that what he's learning here is exactly what he needs at the moment.

"I can't speak any more highly of him and I think he's going to go right to the top."
