Neil has clear conscience

Hamilton Academical captain Alex Neil has angrily denied trying to get Michael Stewart sent off in the fiery 2-1 win over Hearts at the weekend.

Stewart was dismissed for a clash with Neil early on in the second half at New Douglas Park, with the game ending in a mass brawl in the tunnel which led to several further red cards being dished out.

However, Neil says that he is not to blame for the first flashpoint in the game, telling the Scottish Sun: "I certainly didn't make a meal of the incident with Stewart and I did not try to not him sent off. That's just plain wrong.

"I went in for the challenge and then followed the ball. As I did, I felt someone brush against me. If I did catch Stewart it was unintentional, I didn't even think anything of it at the time.

"I just knew there had been contact and the referee had blown for a foul. That's why I put my hands up.

"The next thing I know, he's been sent off. Did he deserve to be? Probably not."
