McCarthy admired by Barca

Barcelona are one of a number of clubs reportedly keeping tabs on Hamilton Academical's highly-rated teenage midfielder James McCarthy.

The 18-year-old is rated as the hottest prospect in Scottish football and has attracted the attentions of several clubs across Europe.

McCarthy's agent, George Gray, told The Scotsman: "Barcelona have asked me to keep them informed about James' situation.

"They are just one of a few Spanish sides who have been in touch. In fact, the amount of teams who have contacted me about the player is unbelievable.

"There are a number of English clubs keeping tabs on his progress, too. But for the moment, he is enjoying playing in the SPL for Hamilton.

"I would imagine when he signs for a bigger club and shares a training ground with world-class acts every day, he will take his own game to a different level."
