Casalinuovo happy at the Accies
02 Sep 2010 - 15:39:25
New Hamilton Academical signing Damian Casalinuovo has admitted he needed a fresh challenge after failing to cement a place in Dundee United's first-team.
The Argentine signed a two-year deal with the New Douglas Park outfit after seeing his opportunities limited with the Tannadice club.
Despite scoring just eight times in 30 appearances for the Terrors last campaign, he believes he deserved a better chance this term, but he is happy to fight for a place in Billy Reid's line-up.
"I wasn't playing at Dundee United and I had been on the bench for five games and hadn't had the opportunity to play. So I think that this is a great opportunity to come and to try and be a regular every week," he said.
"It was my first season and I was expecting to use that for adaptation, then in my second season try to achieve what I did last season.
"At the start of the season, I was on the bench and my frustrations started to come. I know that David Goodwillie and Jon Daly played well, but I think I also deserved a chance because I did well last season.
"The results didn't come for Dundee United but I didn't get the opportunity. So when was I going to play? When the team is winning?
"Things here will be much different and I will try to compete every week for a place."
