Accies waiting on Gordon

Hamilton entertain St Johnstone at New Douglas Park and player-manager Alex Neil is giving Ziggy Gordon until close to kick-off to prove his fitness

Saturday's match-winning hero against Cowdenbeath is suffering a head knock, while a knee injury keeps Jonathan Routledge out. However Jesus Garcia Tena is available after illness.

Neil said: "This is a game that we can enjoy as there is no pressure on us.

"We are top of the Championship and beat Kilmarnock in the last round but St Johnstone are a well-established Premiership side who were playing in Europe recently.

"They are favourites but we will give it a go."

St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright has a virtually fully-fit squad to choose from.

Former Accies players Stevie May and Gary McDonald will relish the chance to face their old side and Wright will have all but one of his group at his disposal ahead of the third round fixture.

Only long-term leg-break victim David Robertson is unavailable to the Northern Irishman but the midfielder is nearing a return to action.

Striker Steven MacLean insists St Johnstone must keep their standards high on Tuesday.

He said: "We didn't start the game very well but if we had finished the game the way we began, then we might have got something.

"We probably gave Celtic too much respect in the first half but in the second 45 we got in their faces and gave a better account of ourselves.

"Now we need to take that into the Hamilton game. If we perform like we did in the later part of the game at Celtic Park, we should qualify.

"It will be a different test for us but we are professionals. We are the Premiership team and it's down to us to go there and stamp our authority on the match."
