Ze Roberto explains his absence

Veteran Brazilian Ze Roberto has apologised to Hamburg coach Bruno Labbadia after failing to return to Germany on time following the Christmas break.

The 35-year-old is still in his homeland and has given no indication on when the club can expect him back in Hamburg.

He said: "I am sorry that I did not come to the training camp and to have informed HSV so late about my reasons.

"I have a serious family problem which I can only resolve by being in Brazil.

"I would like to ask people not to doubt the reliability I have always shown during my career.

"I hope to be back in Hamburg as soon as possible and will remain in contact with those in charge."
