Van der Vaart blow for Hamburg

Rafael van der Vaart may have played his last game of 2013 after picking up an ankle injury while on international duty with Holland.

The Hamburg captain limped out of the the international friendly with Colombia and has since been diagnosed with torn ligaments after undergoing a scan back in Germany.

A rest of up to four weeks is likely for the 30-year-old, who also has a sore right foot after the challenge from Abel Aguilar.

He therefore is doubtful for all five remaining Bundesliga fixtures this year, although if his recovery goes well, the Hamburg playmaker could feature against Mainz on December 21.

He is likely to miss the league games against Hannover, Wolfsburg, Augsburg and Bayern Munich, as well as the DFB-Pokal third round tie with Cologne.
