Trochowski blames misses

Hamburg midfielder Piotr Trochowski blamed missed chances for his side's heartbreaking UEFA Cup semi-final exit.

Martin Jol's side lost Thursday's second leg 3-2 to Werder Bremen to bow out of the competition on the away goals rule after last week's first leg had ended 1-0 in their favour.

"We made too many mistakes and Bremen were clinical in taking advantage of them," said Trochowski, who scored Hamburg's away goal in the first leg.

"It hurts as we are standing here empty-handed."

Meanwhile, the midfielder insists Hamburg will attempt to end the season strongly as they remain involved in a tight Bundesliga title race.

He added: "Our last goal of the season will be to try to qualify for the Champions League."
