More woe for Hamburg as Jansen is ruled out

Relegation-threatened Hamburg had more bad news on Thursday as left-back Marcell Jansen returned from international duty with damaged ankle ligaments and faces a lengthy lay off.

The 28-year-old came off after 24 minutes of Germany's lacklustre 1-0 friendly win over Chile on Wednesday and has torn the ligament in his left ankle.

He will miss Saturday's key Bundesliga clash with Eintracht Frankfurt and could be out for longer as Hamburg look to avoid their first-ever relegation from the Bundesliga.

With his side third from bottom, Hamburg coach Mirko Slomka may also be without striker Pierre-Michael Lasogga, who suffered a leg injury in training with the Germany squad.

Slomka has already lost centre-back Slobodan Rajkovic, who is out for the rest of the season with torn knee ligaments.
