Mathijsen seeks signings

Hamburg defender Joris Mathijsen claims the club need to make some quality signings in the summer if they are to seriously challenge for honours.

Hamburg reached the semi-finals of the German Cup and UEFA Cup this season before being beaten by Werder Bremen on both occasions, while their Bundesliga title challenge has faltered in recent weeks.

"We have done our utmost this campaign, but we lack the depth to compete in several competitions until the end," said Mathijsen.

"We really need some quality signings in the upcoming transfer window."
