Jol enjoys Hamburg display

Hamburg coach Martin Jol was pleased with his side's performance in their 1-0 win at Werder Bremen in the first leg of their all-German UEFA Cup semi-final.

Piotr Trochowski headed home the only goal of the game just before the half-hour mark in the Weserstadion, leaving Jol's side in pole position to reach the final.

The Dutchman told UEFA.com: "We got ourselves into a good position for this tie.

"We started very well, had a great chance in the second minute and then took a deserved lead.

"Altogether we did our job very well against a strong team, not many teams win here. But in the second half we should have scored a second.

"Our position is good and we want to reach the final."
