Hamburg crash out of DFB-Pokal

Hamburg's season got off on the wrong foot on Sunday when the northern Germany side were knocked out of the DFB-Pokal in the first round by Jena.

Bruno Labbadia's men were always chasing the game against their fourth division opponents and despite scoring a last-gasp equaliser to force extra-time, they succumbed in the added period to a Johannes Pieles strike which secured a 3-2 win for the hosts.

Labbadia has plenty of work to do before Hamburg begin their Bundesliga campaign at defending champions Bayern Munich on Friday, while Bundesliga rivals Ingolstadt were also given a rude awakening against Unterhaching just a week before they make their debut in the top flight.

The Bavarians were beaten 2-1 by their fourth division hosts to make it three Bundesliga clubs to be knocked out in the first round, after Hoffenheim lost on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Bayern Munich eased past Nottingen 3-1 with Sven Ulreich chosen over Manuel Neuer to keep goal by Bayern coach Pep Guardiola.

Arturo Vidal opened his account for the record German champions with Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski also on target, with all four goals falling in the first half.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan were both on target in a 2-0 win for Borussia Dortmund over Chemnitzer, the latter having now been involved in seven of Dortmund's last eight goals.

Meanwhile, Hannover defeated Kassel 2-0 and Mainz eased past Energie Cottbus 3-0 to book their place in Friday's draw for the second round.

Hertha Berlin and Borussia Monchengladbach conclude the first-round action on Monday night at Arminia Bielefeld and St Pauli respectively.
