Four days after sacking coach Michael Oenning, Hamburg picked up their first win of the season on Friday, battling back from a goal down to defeat Stuttgart 2-1.

Goals from Jeffrey Bruma (50) and Robert Tesche (67) allowed stand-in coach Rodolfo Cardoso to celebrate a win which took Hamburg off the foot of the table.

Stuttgart had taken an 18th-minute lead through Austrian international Martin Harnik, his fourth of the campaign.

"You could feel the desire to win tonight and we took the three points," said Cardoso who insisted he will be in charge for next week's visit of Schalke.

"I believe this will be our turning point."
