Fink scotches Ze Roberto Hamburg return

Former Brazil international Ze Roberto, who quit Hamburg to play for Qatari club Al Gharafa last summer, on Wednesday saw his chances of a return to the Bundesliga club scotched by coach Thorsten Fink.

The 37-year-old former Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich player last week complained that life in the gas-rich Gulf state was too dull and that he was eager to play once again in a high-level league.

But Fink rejected any notion of a return to Hamburg for the Brazilian, saying: "He's a very good player but he's no longer on our radar. We'd prefer to give a chance to younger players."

Ze Roberto said that he had no intention of prolonging his contract in Qatar, which has six months to run.

"After the summer, it'll be either a return to Germany or Brazil," he said last week.
