Bring on Bayern, boasts Hamburg hot-shot Son

Hamburg's South Korean top-scorer Son Heung-Min has said he is relishing next Saturday's home clash with Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich as his team continue their march up the table.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder netted his fifth goal of the season in nine games on Friday with a sweetly taken left-footed strike as his team sealed a 2-0 win at Augsburg.

Hamburg have rocketed up the table to sixth with four wins in their last six matches, having lost their opening three games this season, and Son is enjoying his best season in the Bundesliga since his arrival in 2008.

"If we can give as much as we did against Dortmund, we can beat Bayern," said Son, who scored twice when Hamburg beat defending champions Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga at the end of September.

"We take a picture of the table, which I use as a background for my cell phone. It gives a little bit of extra motivation."

Having joined Hamburg in 2008 from FC Seoul and with his contract set to run until June 2014, his Bundesliga club are keen to extend the winger's deal, but the South Korean is not committing himself yet.

"I do not know if I will extend during the winter break," he said.

Having scored only eight goals in 40 games before this season, the Asian star is now one of the players Hamburg want to keep.

"He can have another two or three years playing with us," said Hamburg's director of sport Frank Arnesen.

"It's important for him that he has the right prospects.

"Players like Son, (Holland's Rafael) van der Vaart or (Croatia's Milan) Badelj want to play where it's fun and where Europe is an option."

Son is not the only Hamburg star brimming with confidence ahead of Bayern's visit.

"We can win every game, even against Bayern," said their 29-year-old Dutch midfielder van der Vaart with Hamburg having lost just once since he rejoined them from Tottenham Hotspur at the end of August.
