Grimsby Town boss Alan Buckley was full of praise for his side after they secured a Wembley date with MK Dons in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

A goalless draw at home to Morecambe was enough to send the Mariners through from the Northern Area final, with Paul Bolland's strike at Christie Park in the first leg proving decisive.

Buckley told the Evening Telegraph: "They asked a lot of questions. It was a difficult game for us, but our lads did what they have done for three or four months.

"They dug in, defended well and Phil Barnes had had practically nothing to do, as had their keeper.

"All the players work hard for the club and that's just what I want to see. We came away from Morecambe with a 1-0 lead and we knew it was going to be hard. They have some talented players.

"The object of the exercise was to let the town and these terrific players of mine have a day out at Wembley.

"They all deserve it, particularly the chairmen who puts all the hours God sends into the club."
