Town land JPT team of round award
The Mariners, finalists in 2008, turned the form book upside-down against their League One opponents and set up a quarter-final tie with Leeds thanks to first-half goals from Peter Sweeney and Adam Proudlock. "We performed well up at Hartlepool all over the pitch, and were delighted with the way we played," assistant-manager Brian Stein told the club's official website. "We are extremely happy to win an award to remember the performance by and we hope it will be a lucky omen as we travel to take on Leeds in the area quarter-finals. "We have a long held affection for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and it is nice to be linking up with the competition again." Johnstone's sponsorship manager Teresa Hardwick added: "We felt Grimsby's performance and the manner in which they disposed of a highly-placed League One side was worthy of recognition."
