Mariners to keep Hird

Grimsby Town boss Alan Buckley has decided to extend Sam Hird's loan spell from Doncaster Rovers for a further month.

The 20-year-old will now remain at Blundell Park until mid-January, although Rovers have the option of a 24-hour call-back on the defender.

The former Leeds United trainee, who moved to the Keepmoat Stadium in the summer after enjoying a successful spell loan spell with Sean O'Driscoll's side last term, has made eight appearances for Rovers, although seven of those have been from the substitute's bench.

During his time with the Mariners, Hird has played in five matches.
