Mariners sell teenage starlet

Grimsby Town have sold highly-rated teenager Jack Barlow to Hull City for a fee believed to be in excess of £100,000.

Barlow, who had a trial with Manchester United last season, leaves the Mariners without making a first-team appearance for the club.

Town chairman John Fenty said: "It's an interesting one really. Clearly Phil Brown is interested in the long term.

"He personally contacted me to ask about Jack. We then spoke chairman to chairman. When all is said and done, they have the ability to get Jack.

"Our view is, what was on the table was far, far better than if they'd just taken Jack and then it would have ended up at a tribunal."
