Mariners need luck to keep Conlon

The 30-year-old Irishman has scored five goals in seven appearances for the Mariners since Bradford boss Stuart McCall took the surprising decision to loan him out in March. Conlon's goals have help to secure Grimsby's status as a Football League club for another season and Jarman, 22, is hopeful that manager Mike Newell will see through his vow to make the former Darlington man's switch a full-time one. "We've said already, Baz is a good player for this level," said Jarman. "He scores goals, he's proved that anyway. He scores a lot of goals and he brings more than just goals, like his all-round play. We'd be lucky to sign a player like that." Jarman also admits that the mood amongst his team-mates was a slightly sombre one as they learned of their fate at the foot of League Two. Knowing a win would see them safe, Grimsby lost 2-1 at Bournemouth on Saturday but Chester's 2-2 draw with Aldershot meant that Town were all-but mathematically safe. "We were all down after the game because we'd lost," Jarman said. "We weren't really celebrating anything. We knew it was in our hands if we won at Bournemouth, but obviously Chester didn't win and it was a massive relief."
