    Mariners land duo

Grimsby Town manager Alan Buckley has attempted to stop his side's slide towards the League Two relegation zone by signing much-travelled Stevenage Borough striker Tony Thorpe and Carlisle United defender Simon Grand.

Thorpe has signed for the Mariners until the end of the season, while Grand has now made his loan move to Blundell Park a permanent one after penning a contract until the end of next season.

Buckley told Town's official website: "Thorpe did okay in training last week and I asked if we could keep him for a few more days.

"He's looked nice and bright on the training pitch and he looks like my sort of player.

"Our chairman spoke to the Stevenage chairman and it's been agreed he can stay here until the end of the season."

Grimsby have failed to score in their last six games, all of which have been lost.
