Grimsby Town defender Rob Jones looks set to be sidelined for up to four weeks after being told he requires a hernia operation.
The 25-year-old former Stockport County player has been one of Town's best players so far this term and has helped the club maintain their push for a promotion push following last season's disappointments.
Mariners boss Russell Slade may decide to bring in a loan signing to replace Jones who should be ready to return for the busy festive programme.
In addition to Jones' absence, Martin Gritton, Michael Reddy and Andy Parkinson have all missed training this week - with groin, thigh and shin splints problems respectively.
