Grim injury list for Newell

Grimsby Town's injury crisis has worsened after defenders Matt Heywood and Paul Linwood were named among the latest casualties to report to the Blundell Park treatment room.

Club captain Heywood sustained a foot injury in Grimsby's 4-0 loss to Port Vale last week and Linwood will be forced to rest a twisted knee.

The Mariners could be without up to nine senior players through injury for Saturday's league match with Hereford, while three more could miss out through suspension.

"Paul Linwood twisted his knee in the first half at Port Vale but we're hoping it's not a serious one," manager Mike Newell told the Grimsby Telegraph.

"Matt Heywood hurt his foot when studs came down on top of it and he is a real doubt for the weekend as his foot has swollen - it's two more added to a long list."

Grimsby lie 23rd in League Two having won just three points from their opening six games.
