Colgan proud at gesture

Grimsby Town goalkeeper Nick Colgan has expressed his delight at being handed the captain's armband by caretaker boss Neil Woods.

The 36-year-old stopper received the honour following Ryan Bennett's move to Championship side Peterborough United last month.

His first game leading the side was during the 3-1 defeat against Bournemouth on October 24 and has retained the position during the past four games.

Speaking to Grimsby Telegraph, he said: "I'm very privileged to get given the armband and there's a lot of pride there for me.

"I'm greatly honoured that Neil has asked me to do the job.

"Neil's asked me to take it on as I'm probably the most experienced in the squad.

"I'd like to think that some of my professionalism rubs off on some of the other lads."
