Grimsby Town boss Alan Buckley admitted that his side had been well below-par in their 4-1 home thrashing by Dagenham Redbridge at the weekend.
The Mariners were unbeaten in their previous 11 games, but fell apart against the resurgent Daggers at Blundell Park.
Buckley told the Evening Telegraph: "Overall, we deserved to get beat. We got what we deserved and that was nothing.
"The disappointing part of Saturday was that we've got ourselves in a fantastic position and we could have gone into the top eight or nine, subject to other results.
"We could have pushed ourselves right in there and that makes it doubly disappointing.
"I wasn't daft enough to think we would go the rest of the season unbeaten, but I certainly wouldn't have envisaged a defeat and a performance like that. It was very disappointing."
