Grimsby Town boss Alan Buckley was full of praise for his players after they won 2-1 at Stockport county to reach the Northern Area final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
The Mariners now face Morecambe in the two-legged area final, with a place at Wembley at stake for the League Two rivals.
Buckley told the Evening Telegraph: "I'm delighted with the players. They have given everything they have got yet again and they have worked themselves a fantastic result against a decent team.
"It was a good game between two teams trying to play, in spite of the conditions.
"Grinding results out is not just something the players have done tonight. They have been like that for six weeks.
"They are playing as they should really. They are rolling their sleeves up, giving everything they have."
