Buckley calls for realism

Unhappy Grimsby Town manager Alan Buckley has lambasted a section of the club's fans who have consistently criticised his side.

The mid-table Mariners have lost their last five matches in all competitions but Buckley insists it has been a solid season.

He told the Grimsby Evening Telegraph: "People are frustrated at the minute, I can understand that.

"But they've got to get real and realise what it is we're trying to do and realise it will take time to do it.

"We've always done well over the years at getting the very best out of what we've got, and we had some terrific footballers.

"But we aren't at that level now, we haven't got a Clive Mendonca. I hope I can find one somewhere, because it isn't for the want of looking.

"We're trying to make something out of what we've got, within the budgets of keeping the club afloat. It's a very difficult job and it's a shame one or two people who probably would have been first on the bus travelling to Wembley don't understand that."
